"Give a WikiTribute to the special people in your life"
WikiTribute.org also can be accessed via RealSuperheroes.org because the people here are also real-life superheroes. They may not swing from building to building on bat-ropes or sipder-webs and foil masked supervillains, but they are at least as important for what they have done for others.
Purpose
WikiTribute was created when Wikipedia's limitations on biographical pages sparked an idea that became this site.
This is a place to let people create pages for people should be noticed for what they do or have done, but in the scheme of the world are probably unnoticed. The real idea behind all of it is to see how everyone is connected or affected by these people, or to be able to hit 'random page' and read about someone amazing.
WikiTribute is a warm-fuzzy wiki that should make you feel better about humanity by showing the best, rather than the worst. Every one of us is important to someone, and perhaps every one of us should have a page here.

Terms of Service/Disclaimer
The Rules
- Pages should be biographical only, do not create or edit pages about yourself. Use the discussion pages to discuss gross allegations or factual innacuracies.
- Your user page may be auto-biographical and even contain blog-like material. Please be aware of the difference between a user page ([[User:Username]]) and a page about a person ([[Person Name]]).
- Pages should be entirely factual, though opinion statements are allowed
- Pages should not be negative, but should represent the facts
- Pages may be as glowing as you like, but again, factuality is important
- Do not create corporate pages unless the vast majority (~95%) of the content is regarding philanthropic activities.
- Any posted content or images should have appropriate permission and/or licensing to be posted.
- Any content or images must be "safe for work", pornography or nudity of any kind is not permitted. People under the age of 18 regularly visit this site and parents should not have to fear letting their children access this site.
- Any registered user who discovers content not "safe for work" should immediately remove it. Any other major changes by someone other than the original author such as streamlining or removal should be discussed on the page's discussion area before action.
And most importantly:
- Have fun creating pages about the people and organizations that have meant something to you. Don't let the terms and conditions scare you, they're just for the vandals, etc.
Disclaimer
WikiTribute, its maintainer(s), bandwidth providers, and any involved parties take no responsibility for the accuracy or origin of the material on this site. We will try relentlessly to remove vandalism and work to resolve problems equitably, but some content will always slip through the cracks, including potentially illegal or indecent materials. All content is the responsibility of the users. We reserve the right to change the terms at any time.
Conditions
WikiTribute is a privately funded project by a non-corporate entity and provided for the purpose of showcasing outstanding individuals and organizations. We reserve the right to deny service to anyone who abuses the Wiki format and vandalizes any page after a reasonable number of warnings. Severe abuse or hacking will result in an instant removal and ban. Our goal is to ensure the enjoyment of the people who use this site for benevolent purposes and in the spirit of the site. We reserve the right to remove, or allow administrators to remove, any content which is defamatory, slanderous, untrue, crude, indecent, or otherwise inconsistent with the purpose of this site. Similarly, we reserve the right to remove any user for any reason.
Account Requirements
Users must create a free account in order to reduce the amount of spam and vandalism. I hope that this requirement will be more of a benefit than a hinderance to users. Visitors do not need an account to read content, only to edit.
Supporting WikiTribute
We're always looking for assistance in many forms. If you can offer a hand, some skill, hardware, or even monetary donations, please see WikiTribute:Site_support for information on things we need or how to contribute.

Technical Information
Hosting Environment
- WikiTribute is hosted on a server owned by the founder in a server room leased by his employer. For the forseeable future, this agreement will remain- but there are several other pre-arranged places that the site may be hosted in the event of needing extra servers or loss of employment.
- The server room itself is located in the basement of a high-rise apartment building in Ames, IA and the only access is through an RFID controlled entryway leading to a standard dead-bolted door.
- Access to the basement is monitored with closed circuit security cameras.
Server Information
- WikiTribute is now hosted on a Sun Enterprise 420R with quad 450mhz CPUs, 4GiB of ram, and 66gb of redundant disk space, plus a 36gb root disk. The speed versus disk space and ram made it worthwhile. If disk space is needed in the future, an external array could be purchased (or Donated).
- WikiTribute was formerly hosted on a SGI Origin 200 with dual 270mhz CPUs, 2GiB of ram, and about 200gb of redundant disk space. To this day, that is still my favorite machine I've ever owned, but it just wasn't fast enough.
- All servers and upgrades so far have been purchased with my personal money. The 420R should make a good speedup as the mysql will run better and I can then preload more httpd workers.
- The server has redundant power supplies connected to separate battery backups which are mainly used to smooth out the electricity during generator switchovers (tested monthly).
- In the event of a complete hardware failure, the SGI Origin 200 is still available, as well as an 8-way Origin 2000 (4x180mhz, 4x250mhz) and a single cpu Pentium-III 1ghz. The Enterprise 220R will most likely become the fallback and the Origin 200 is for sale.
